The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for United

The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL side.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
