The President Welcomes Relatives of Attacked National Guard Personnel to White House

President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he has asked the relatives of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to visit the presidential home.

He mentioned that he contacted her family and they were “devastated”.

Background on the Devastating Event

US army specialist Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a violent incident on Wednesday in DC.

Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Gatherings across the state have been held in their remembrance.

White House Offer

The president said he’s discussed a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both members of the state National Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” the president told journalists. “And likewise with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”

Community Support

Community members came together over the past few days at a local school in the state to pay respects to Sarah.

Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s national effort to support public safety in Washington DC.

Paying Tribute to the Soldier

“Sarah was the type of pupil that instructors wished for. She carried herself with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a positive energy that lifted people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s former high school, told the press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always eager to support those in need.”

Funeral details for Beckstrom are still being arranged.

Judicial Measures and Policy Revisions

Authorities have charged a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of homicide and two counts of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.

The tragedy led the government to suspend refugee claims and halt providing entry permits to owners of passports from Afghanistan.

Condition of the Airman

The airman, a resident of Martinsburg, enlisted in February 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, as reported by the AP.

He remains under medical supervision and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia governor the governor mentioned on a news program.

The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi told a news show that she planned to visit Wolfe’s family.

Legacy of Beckstrom

Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from her high school in mid-2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a MP with excellence, per the state guard.

“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had fortitude,” he informed the crowd at the memorial. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
