🔗 Share this article The Battle Royale's Specialized Movement Mechanics Become Widely Accessible During This Update Respawn Entertainment has a special treat prepared for the popular battle royale gamers, perfectly timed for festive season. Fans of the battle royale's super-slick traversal can rejoice to discover that a new movement mechanic will be introduced when Season 27: Amped launches on November 4th. Introducing The Mantle Boost Named "Mantle Boosting" by the developers, this feature gives players a surge of propulsion when climbing over ledges and walls. According to key developer the design lead, this technique has unofficially been a feature of the game for some time, often called as "mantle jumping." But it's challenging for casual gamers, and is mainly used by pro gamers in Ranked Mode or esports competitions. This season, Respawn simplifies the process for everyone to execute these advanced movement boosts. "This technique existed in the game for some time, but the movement isn't easy to perform and gamers might not realize it [is in the game] without external guides," Canavese explains. "Now including a Mantle Boost indicator so users can easily see when and how to activate the fast-paced traversal skill, making accessible the mechanic and introducing fresh strategies to play for a much wider base." Why Opening Up Advanced Mechanics What's the reason for making a previously obscure movement quirk accessible to all players? Lead Legend designer Josh Mohan says developers wants players to feel powerful — even those who are inexperienced. "Our community is doing advanced techniques like super-glides and tap-strafes, and we looked around at other games, looked at what the community are doing, and we said, 'What if we provide some of this power to a broader audience?'" Mohan clarifies. "Since currently, some of these advanced [movement] mechanics are kind of janky to use — you need to remap your keybinds and execute within one-frame windows. So we said, 'What if we make a more official implementation?'" The Amped Update Movement Focus Movement is largely the central theme in this season, with characters Horizon, the defensive specialist, and Valkyrie all getting enhancements to maintain them mobile. Recovery time on Horizon's Gravity Lift has been decreased, and the Gravity Lift will propel players upward much quicker than before. Rampart's Amped Cover now include a roof and the ability to provide movement bonuses to those nearby. However the spotlight is on aerial this Legend who's getting the most attention now, with multiple tweaks implemented to enhance her as more potent, faster, and deadlier. "I think many agree that her moment is here," states Legend designer the designer. "Certainly that she's been top-tier in the past, but with the introduction of new Legends, mobility perks, and Evac Towers, it seemed like she's not very relevant in current Apex. This presented a really great opportunity for us to revisit a bunch of aspects in her abilities and essentially bring her back to her glory days." Valkyrie's Upgrades To reclaim Valkyrie's relevance in the game's meta, Holstead says the team evaluated all her skills and implemented significant modifications. Her jetpack received improvements, boosting her speed while airborne, and the jets themselves regenerates three times faster, allowing the player to remain longer aloft. She can no longer take damage from her own Missile Swarm, which has also been upgraded to tag opponents who take damage from it. Her squad redeploy skill — which launches teammates into the air for repositioning or escape — now takes reduced delay to fire up. Additionally, she gains recently added Legend Upgrades that players can choose to reduce fuel consumption, expand the spread of her rockets, or further speed up her Skyward Dive takeoff time. "Her jet pack now delivers on the pilot experience," Holstead says. Olympus Improvements Even the game's lone airborne map, this location, is getting a mobility-focused overhaul, with an extensive redesign that expands bottlenecks and renders claiming the high ground more manageable. The developers says Apex Legends this update focuses on providing gamers the resources they need to keep up with matches. "Essentially, we examined Apex's core identity as a movement shooter," says lead Legend designer the lead. The battle royale the Amped season launches November 4th at 10 a.m. PST/1 p.m. EST.
