American performer Finn, who featured in beloved TV shows like "Friends", Seinfeld and "The Middle", has passed away at the age of 60.

The skilled improv artist passed away at his residence in Los Angeles on Monday following treatment for a cancer diagnosis from 2022 onward, as reported by news outlets.

"He saw everyone as a friend - only friends he didn't know yet," his loved ones stated in a announcement.

They added that he had "lived his life fully - with happiness and energy".

A Notable Career on Screen

His debut TV appearance was on the George Wendt Show in 1995, where he portrayed the titular character's brother.

He subsequently landed a regular part on Murphy Brown in the latter half of the 1990s.

He appeared as a party host named Joe Mayo in the show Seinfeld in 1998, depicting a party host who would assign unpleasant chores to his guests.

Throughout the end of the 90s and start of the 2000s, he had guest spots on a variety of hit series, including:

  • The King of Queens
  • Friends
  • That '70s Show
  • House

His most famous role for portraying Bill Norwood in The Middle, featuring across eight series from 2011 to 2018.

His work in movies include It's Complicated (2009) and "Santa Paws 2".

A Life in Improv

Away from his acting parts, Finn was a skilled improviser and served as an educator at the University of Colorado, where he was a professor.

He was a member of a six-member improv team known as "Beer Shark Mice".

"He taught, supported, and inspired numerous pupils throughout the years and you'd be hard-pressed to find a person anyplace who has anything negative to say about him," his family wrote.

Paying homage, colleague and actor actor Richard Kind remarked there was "not a more kind, gentle, or funny, authentic human being you could encounter".

"Always positive, assisting others to improve and be funnier. An excellent dad and person," he posted on social media.

Pat Finn is survived by his spouse Donna, three children, and his family.
