LA Dodgers Survive in Canada to Force Winner-Take-All Game 7 in Fall Classic

The World Series is going to a final Game 7 following the Los Angeles Dodgers kept their title defense dreams intact Friday night with a three to one win over the Blue Jays in Game 6.

The reigning title holders halted Toronto’s ninth-inning rally with a dramatic final twin killing, silencing a home audience that had come ready to celebrate the city’s championship in 32 years.

Sixth Game Summary

The Dodgers generated all of their scoring in the third frame. With two outs, Shohei Ohtani was intentionally walked before Smith hit a two-bagger to left to bring home Tommy Edman. Freddie Freeman drew a walk to load the bases, and Betts came through with a two-RBI hit to left, handing the Dodgers a three-run advantage.

Betts’ hit snapped a postseason slump and revived the title holders' hopes of becoming the initial back-to-back championship victors since the New York Yankees captured three consecutive from 1998 through 2000.

Mound Duel

Gausman had been nearly unhittable to that stage, striking out six of the first seven Dodgers he faced. He fanned 8 through three frames, matching a World Series mark, but the third-inning barrage proved costly. The Blue Jays' star ended with 8 Ks over six frames, allowing three earned runs on three hits and two walks.

Yamamoto, meanwhile, was solid again under stress. The righty outpitched Gausman for the second occasion in a week, giving up a single run on five base hits over six innings with six strikeouts. He boosted his record to 4–1 this playoffs with a 1.56 ERA.

The only run against him came on Springer’s two-out single in the third inning, driving in Addison Barger, who had hit a double earlier in the inning. That single offered a momentary lift in his comeback to the starting nine after missing a pair of contests with an side strain.

Relief Heroics

After that, the Los Angeles relievers took over. Rookie Wrobleski escaped a tight spot in the seventh inning, and another rookie RĹŤki Sasaki worked into the ninth inning before plunking Kirk to open the frame. Barger then hit a two-base hit that became wedged under the left-center-field fence, forcing base runners to hold at second and third.

Glasnow, Los Angeles’ Game 3 starting pitcher, came on in relief and got a popout before Giménez hit a line drive to left field. Hernández caught the ball and threw to second base to double off Barger, sealing the victory and earning the pitcher his first career successful save.

Looking Ahead: Game 7

The best-of-seven now comes down to one game. Scherzer will take the mound for Toronto, becoming the sole active hurler to pitch in more than one seventh games of the World Series after accomplishing that in 2019 with the Nationals. The veteran inked a single-season contract to pursue another championship and has been a outspoken presence throughout this postseason.

The Los Angeles squad, aiming to be baseball’s first back-to-back champions in nearly a quarter-century, are expected to rely on their two-way star for a brief appearance.
