Blasts and Low-Altitude Planes Witnessed in Venezuelan Capital Caracas City

Reports surfaced of numerous detonations and the noise of low-altitude planes in the Venezuelan capital in the small hours of Saturday. The event has sparked accusations from Venezuela's government and demands for international scrutiny.

Caracas Condemns United States of Attack

The socialist administration has accused the US of an act of "imperial aggression," stating that ex- President Donald Trump reportedly ordered military strikes against the South American country. In an public announcement, the authorities asserted that attacks had impacted Caracas and three other regions: Miranda state, La Guaira, and Aragua.

"The primary goal of this aggression is to seize control of our nation's natural resources, especially its petroleum and minerals," the statement declared.

The government appealed to the international community to censure the operations, which it labeled a "blatant breach of global law" that endangered millions of lives in danger.

Accounts of Explosions and Military Installations Hit

Residents described hearing at least multiple powerful blasts around 2:00 AM local time. People in different districts allegedly ran into the streets outside.

"The whole ground shook. It was frightening. We heard explosions and planes in the distance," said one resident.

Black smoke was observed pouring from two military installations in Caracas: the La Carlota airfield and the Fuerte Tiuna army base, where president Maduro is thought to live.

Regional Condemnation

The leader of bordering Colombia, Gustavo Petro, stated on a social platform that "Right now they are bombing Venezuela... attacking it with projectiles." He demanded an immediate emergency session of the United Nations Security Council.

The Colombian government, which recently joined the Security Council, announced it would initiate operational protocols at its border with Venezuela.

Preceding Events

These alleged attacks follow a months-long campaign of pressure by the US against the Venezuelan administration. Since last summer, there has been a significant American military deployment off Venezuela's northern coast and a series of air strikes on boats linked to narco-trafficking.

Venezuela's administration has announced "a state of external threat" and ordered all national defence measures to be implemented. It has also called on its supporters to mobilize and "reject this imperialist act."

US authorities and the US Department of Defense did not publicly responded to requests for a statement regarding the allegations.
