A Mountain of Anime Updates Dropped During the Holidays

The winter break present a plethora of pursuits far superior than checking the headlines: unwrapping gifts, indulging in festive fare, and using deep breathing to not snapping at relatives. It is wished you succeeded in do all these things and more. That said, the entertainment world never sleeps, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. A slew of noteworthy announcements emerged during the break, and just in case you missed any, here is a summary of the juiciest bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (Come 2027)

Truly the biggest revelation, the much-discussed disaster that was season 3 of One-Punch Man failed to halt the series' continuation. Season 3 will return with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—a date so remote they could have labeled it season 4. More surprisingly, animation studio J.C. Staff will remain leading the project. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the outset, which might be a positive development. But, the key visual for the second cour is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This suggests that, at this point, they are probably teasing the fans.

Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has built a reputation for being an top-tier animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the high caliber of its productions but for the ethical practices of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not adapted an anime based on a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, arguably the most iconic magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained massive popularity when it debuted in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the creator's health issues. When it returned with a more relaxed pace, the series proved it hadn't lost the fans' appreciation and positive sentiment, and now the community is overjoyed about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Its Sixth Season Has a Sequel Now in the Works

Kingdom is the highly popular, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English localization, but the anime has been running for some time, and season 6 was a further excellent entry. As it happens that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in production, and it will almost certainly debut in 2026.

Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

Another studio famous for the excellent quality of its projects, Science Saru has delivered hit shows of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the true story of Fatima, an influential woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and intriguing visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my must-watch list.

Tougen Anki Is Set to Continue With a Season Two

Right after the conclusion of the final episode of the first season, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be securing a second season. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific air date has yet to be revealed.
